Women's Basketball Cruises to 77-62 Win Over Berks

ABINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's basketball team earned a crucial NEAC win with a 77-62 victory over visiting Penn State Berks, Wednesday evening.

Abington improves to 13-6 and 9-6 in the NEAC.

Junior Madison Kimball (Jenkintown, Pa.) led Abington with an impressive 20 points and 19 rebounds while senior Mallory Mugnier (Glenside, Pa.) also recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

In the first period Janaiah Elum (Philadelphia, Pa.) came out firing when she drained her shot from downtown in the first five seconds of the game. Elum sparked a 12-2 run before Berks would chip away at the lead, but a 5-0 run from Abington gave them the advantage at the end of the period.

Abington won the boards in the second period with four layups, as they pushed the lead to double-digits.  Both teams traded shots but as time expired Elum drained a half-court shot to give Abington a commanding lead.

Berks came out of the second half with a layup to cut into Abington's lead.  Abington kept pace with Berks and never allowed its lead to drop below nine points.

In the final quarter, Abington hit three shots from downtown to keep a big lead and put away Penn State Berks.

Abington will return to the court when they host Cazenovia College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
