Men’s Basketball Wins Thriller Over Cazenovia, 80-78

ABINGTON, Pa. – With one second on the clock, senior Yusef Savage (Philadelphia, Pa.) broke a deadlocked game and gave the Penn State Abington men's basketball team a 80-78 win over Cazenovia College on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions earn their fifth win of the season with a 5-17 record overall and 5-10 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Senior Devin Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) had an efficient game, as he hit 5-of-10 of his shots from behind the arc and scored 30 points on the afternoon. Savage earned a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.

Defense ruled the beginning of the first half, but Cazenovia pulled in front with their success from downtown. At the fourteen minute mark, Savage rallied the Nittany Lions with eight consecutive points to give Abington its first lead of the half.

The lead changed hands twelve times before Abington pulled away on a 14-4 run spurred by Jones. He drained his shot for three and Abington held the edge 43-35 going into the break.

In the second half, the Wildcats gained momentum and evened the score with 10 minutes left in the game.  Abington responded and brought its lead back to double-digits with six minutes on the clock.

The Wildcats chipped away at the lead and tied the game with 20 seconds left.  Savage held the ball until the last second and drained his step back jump shot for the win.

The Nittany Lions will honor seniors Jones and Savage tomorrow for their final home game of the year when they host Morrisville St. at noon.
