Baseball Swept by Stevenson on Opening Day

STEVENSON, Md. - On opening day, the Penn State Abington baseball team traveled to Stevenson University and were swept by the Mustangs in a doubleheader.  The Nittany Lions lost game one 7-1 and fell in game two 11-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Stevenson were first on the board with a two run double in the bottom of the first inning. Later in the inning, the Mustangs added another run on a fielding error.

The Mustangs tacked on another run in the fifth inning with an RBI single to give Stevenson the 4-0 lead. Abington answered in the top of the sixth inning when Will Faccenda (Holland, Pa.) took home on a wild pitch.

The Nittany Lions could not add to their total with only four hits in the seven inning game.

Abington jumped out early in the first inning to open game two. With two outs, the Nittany Lions got on base with two consecutive singles and Trey Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) added another to drive in the first run.  Dante Mililo (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed Guaglionona with a single up the middle to add another run in the first inning.

The Mustangs knocked in four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Stevenson added another two runs before the Nittany Lions got back on the board. Mililo earned his second RBI of the game with a double to right center field.

Stevenson tacked on five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore center fielder Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions as he went 3-of-4 for the day with two runs, two doubles, and three walks on the day.

The Nittany Lions cancelled their home doubleheader tomorrow and will be back on the diamond on March 1 when they travel to Rutgers-Newark at 4:00 p.m.
