ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington softball team suffered two losses in its 2016 home opener falling to Rutgers Camden, 3-2 and 12-0, on Thursday afternoon.
Abington drops to 3-3 for the season.
In game one, the Scarlet Raptors were first on the board in the third inning with an RBI single. Rutgers Camden added two more runs later in the fifth inning due to an error on the field. The Nittany Lions mounted a rally in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore
Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) knocked an RBI triple to center field. Sheridan later scored on a passed ball to make it 3-2. Abington had the tying run on second base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not get them across the plate.
In game two, Rutgers-Camden jumped out to a 4-0 lead on three hits and an error. The Scarlet Raptors put away the game in the fourth inning off six hits.
Abington will travel to Albright College on Saturday with game time set for 12:00 p.m.
