CAMDEN, NJ – The Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team netted six first half goals, but it couldn't hold onto momentum falling to Rutgers-Camden 19-6 on Thursday night.
Abington drops to 1-4 for the season.
Sophomore
Michaela Mast (Pottstown, Pa.) netted two goals on the evening and
Chasidy McLaurin (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed up with another two goal performance after scoring two against Virginia Wesleyan.
Rutgers-Camden were first on the board with a quick goal in the first minute of the game.
Mast answered by winning the draw control and took it down the field for her first goal of the game. She added her second goal minutes later to give the Nittany Lions a 2-1 lead. McLaurin added a goal seconds later.
The Scarlet Raptors stole momentum with four straight answered goals to hold a 5-3 lead.Â
Assisted by Mast, McLaurin cut the lead with 16:25 on the clock with her second goal of the game.
Rutgers-Camden notched another goal, but the Nittany Lions quickly answered with goals from
Jessica Watts (Abington, Pa.) and
Kathryn Kelly (Springfield, Pa.) to tie the game at 6-6.
In the final ten minutes of the half, the Scarlet Raptors went on a 7-0 goal streak to put the game out of reach.
The Nittany Lions will open their NEAC slate when they travel to Bryn Athyn on April 2 at 2:00 p.m.Â
