GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sophomore
Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) hit for the cycle in a doubleheader, as the Penn State Abington Softball team traveled to Arcadia on Tuesday night. The Nittany Lions dropped game one 7-3 and lost game two 9-8 in heartbreaking fashion.
The Nittany Lions fall to 3-7 for the season.
Sheridan started her cycle with an inside the park home run and singled later in game one. She hit an RBI to give the Nittany Lions an early 1-0 lead, but he Knights took the lead in the third inning with three runs.
The sophomore outfielder hit her inside the park home run to cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth inning.Â
Arcadia extended its lead with two more runs in the fourth inning and added another in the fifth to give the Knights a 6-2 lead. Sheridan knocked in another run with her RBI single up the middle in the sixth inning, but it was not enough to overcome the Knights.
In game two, Arcadia broke the stalemate in the third inning with three runs off five hits. The Nittany Lions chipped away at the lead in the fourth inning with a run.
The Knights got into trouble in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases for
Amy Worek (Abington, Pa.). The freshman drew a walk and Sheridan reached on an error to tie the game.
Worek capped the seven run swing with a double down the left field line and Sheridan drove her in with her triple.
Arcadia rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning and hit a walk off double to finish the Nittany Lions.
Abington will continue its road trip when they face Misericordia University on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
