DALLAS, Pa. – Sophomore
Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) recorded her fourth home run of the season to drive the Penn State Abington softball team to a 6-4 win in game one. In game two, the Nittany Lions fell to Misericordia 4-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Abington moves to 4-8 before they jump into conference play.
In game one, the Nittany Lions started off with two runners on for Sheridan at the plate. The centerfielder drove a long ball over the wall to left field for a three run shot.
Abington added another run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) to give the Nittany Lions a 4-0 lead.
The Cougars cut the Nittany Lions lead with a two run home run in the fourth inning.
Sheridan extended the Nittany Lions lead with an RBI double to left field. Moments later, Dougherty drove her in with another sacrifice fly.
Misericordia added another two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Abington got out of the jam when they forced a ground out to the pitcher.
In game two, Misericordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead and solid pitching held the Nittany Lions to three hits for the game.
Abington will return home to host its first NEAC contest of the season against Gallaudet on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
