LAJAS, PUERTO RICO - After a day off, the Penn State Abington baseball team looked forward to a rematch against Pitt Greensburg, but the Nittany Lions couldn't top the Bobcats as they dropped a 12-4 decision, on Tuesday evening.
The Nittany Lions fall to 1-8 for the season.
Abington was led by senior
Ted Smallwood (Athens, NY) as he went 2-of-4 with a run scored.
Pitt Greensburg opened the game with four runs in the first inning, but the Nittany Lions were able to chip away at the lead in the top of the second inning. Freshman
Max Perilstein (Cheltenham, Pa.) opened with a leadoff triple and scored moments later on a wild pitch.
Later in the fourth inning, the Bobcats added another four runs to their total. With two on in the top of the fifth inning Smallwood scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead.
In the seventh inning, the Nittany Lions were able to double their total with a run scored on a passed ball and a RBI single to left field from
Max German (Newtown, Pa.). Pitt Greensburg was able to keep Abington in check with ten strike outs.
The Nittany Lions will play Oneonta again tomorrow in a doubleheader at 10:00 a.m.Â
