MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Down 5-2 in the final inning,
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa) stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and knocked a walk-off grand slam for the Penn State Abington softball team. The Nittany Lions earned a 6-5 win over St. Joseph's College Long Island on Wednesday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions improve to 2-1 for the season.
Lineman led Abington at the plate as she went 2-of-4 with two runs and five RBIs for the game.
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) demonstrated a solid performance on the mound with only two earned runs against her and two strike outs.
The Golden Eagles scored five unanswered runs and held the Nittany Lions to one hit for the first five innings of the game.
In the bottom half of the sixth inning, Abington started to rally with Lineman's RBI single. Up next, Dougherty drove in Lineman with her RBI double.
Down three runs, the Nittany Lions came up to bat in the seventh inning.  With one out, Abington loaded the bases with Lineman at the plate. The junior infielder fell behind the count with one ball and two strikes, but Lineman slammed her first home run of the year for the walk off win.
Abington will play its final game at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic tomorrow evening when they face off against Robert Morris College at 5:30 p.m.
