LANCASTER, Pa. – The Penn State Abington softball team rebounded after two tough results against Penn State Berks with a series sweep of Lancaster Bible on Wednesday afternoon. Abington rallied to a 6-5 win in game one and dominated game two with a 16-0 decision in five innings.
The Nittany Lions improve to 9-11 overall and 5-3 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned the first RBI of the game with her single, and
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) drove her in with her first of three doubles for the game. In the next two innings the Chargers scored five unanswered runs to take a 5-2 lead. Dougherty chipped away at the lead in the third inning with an RBI double. In the fifth inning the Nittany Lions pulled out in front with three more runs highlighted by another double from Dougherty.
In game two, the Nittany Lions dominated with the long ball as
Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) hit her NEAC leading sixth home run in the first inning to set the tone. Abington would add another three runs in the first inning capped by a double from Melisa Craig (Westville, N.J.) that drove in two runs. The Nittany Lions added seven runs in the third inning off home runs from Lineman and
Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, Pa.) to take a 12-0 lead. In the fifth inning Abington capitalized on four defensive errors from the Chargers.
Abington will be back home on Saturday against the College of Saint Elizabeth to celebrate senior day at 1:00 p.m.
