Nittany Lions Edged by Lancaster Bible 13-12

LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore Michaela Mast (Pottstown, Pa.) netted five goals, but the Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team dropped a close game to Lancaster Bible College 13-12, on Wednesday evening.

The Nittany Lions fall to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference, while Lancaster Bible moves to 7-5 and 3-2 in conference.

Mast went blow-for-blow with one of the NEAC leaders in goals, Myranda Kemrer, with five. The sophomore also scooped up three ground balls and pulled in four draw controls for the evening. Senior Kathryn Kelly (Springfield, Pa.) helped the Nittany Lions rally with four goals for the day.

The Chargers held the lead with two goals in the first ten minutes of play, but Mast broke the silence at the 17:30 mark.  Both teams traded goals until the Chargers scored two straight goals to take a 5-2 lead.  Mast and Kelly pulled the Nittany Lions back within one, with goals from both.  In the final five minutes of the half the Chargers added another goal to their total, but Kelly answered right back with the final goal of the half.

Kemrer helped the Chargers pull away with two more goals in the second half, but momentum shifted when Mast scored three of the next four goals to rally the Nittany Lions to a 9-8 lead.  Abington held the slight lead until Lancaster Bible scored four goals within a three minute span to take the lead back.  Two goals in the dying seconds from the Nittany Lions almost forced overtime, but Abington fell just shy.

Abington will look to rebound when they travel to New York for a game against Morrisville State College on Saturday at noon.
