Softball Continues Success with Series Sweep over Wesley

DOVER, DE – The Penn State Abington softball team won its sixth straight game with two victories over Wesley College on Monday afternoon.  The Nittany Lions rallied past the Wolverines in game one 6-5, and took game two 6-3 at DuPont Field.

Abington improves to 13-11 for the season.

In game one, Wesley scored the first five runs and held a 5-0 advantage in the third inning.  Four consecutive singles in the fourth inning for the Nittany Lions helped them get two runs across the plate.
Amy Worek (Abington, Pa.) and Danielle Hebling (Warminster, Pa.) drove in two more runs in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly and a single to center field. The Nittany Lions took advantage of a throwing error to tie the game in the seventh inning and Nicole Battaglio (King of Prussia, Pa.) hit the game winning run across the plate with a single to center field.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to an early lead in game two spurred on by a triple from Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) that gave Abington a 3-0 lead. Abington added to its total in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.).  Junior pitcher Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, Pa.) allowed 11 hits, but kept the Wolverines from scoring with only three earned runs.

Abington will wrap up its non-conference schedule when they host Delaware Valley University tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
