ABINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Abington softball team battled to its eighth consecutive win with a series sweep over Delaware Valley University on Tuesday afternoon. A strong pitching performance from
Jennifer Rakita (Langhorne, Pa.) shut down the Aggies and gave the Nittany Lions the victory in game one with a score of 2-1. In game two, the Nittany Lions outgained the Aggies 9-6 at Huntingdon Field.
Abington improves to 15-11 for the season after its final non-conference game of the year.
A dominate pitching performance from Rakita held the Aggies in check, but they were first on the board in the second inning. A double from
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) drove in the game winning runs in the third inning.
In game two, the Nittany Lions loaded the bases for
Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) who drove a double down the left field line to score three runs.
Natalie Duvall (Lucedale MS) earned her first career hit with a double to center field to score two more runs. The Nittany Lions added another two runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a double from
Breanna Lineman. (Philadelphia, Pa.)
Abington will travel to Berks tomorrow afternoon for a crucial NEAC matchup at 3:00 p.m.
