Baseball Sweeps St. Joseph's College Brooklyn

JENKINTOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team hosted St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn and swept the Bears in the series on Sunday afternoon. Abington dominated at the plate in game one with a 12-3 win and shut down the Bears in game two 4-1.

The Nittany Lions improve to 9-13 for the season.

Senior Ted Smallwood (Athens, NY) earned his third win of the season in game one with another solid performance at the mound, only allowing two earned runs off six hits on the blustery day.

Anthony Pletscher (Hatfield, Pa.) recorded three runs off three hits offensively for the Nittany Lions and drove in three RBIs.

With seven runs in the fifth inning, Austin Mikula (Philadelphia, Pa.) aided the Nittany Lions with a single that drove in two runs.  The offensive explosion put away the Bears.

In game two, Abington broke a deadlock in the third inning when Max German (Newtown, Pa.) hit an RBI single to left field and Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.) drove him in with a double to right center field. Will Faccenda (Holland, Pa.) added another run in the fourth inning with a hard ball up the middle.

The Bears tacked on another run in the seventh inning, but Greg Mugnier (Abington, Pa) closed out the game for the Nittany Lions.

Abington will host Lancaster Bible tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
