Baseball Clinches NEAC Regular Season Title with Sweep of Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, DC – For the first time in team history, the Penn State Abington baseball team will host the NEAC baseball tournament after a series sweep of Gallaudet on Saturday afternoon.  The Nittany Lions took game one 4-1, and won a 4-2 decision in game two.

Abington finishes the regular season with a 22-18 record overall and tied its best conference record since 2011 with a 12-2 mark in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Matt McDonough (Abington, Pa.) dominated on the mound with only two hits against him in a full nine innings of work in game one. In the first inning Anthony Pletscher (Hatfield, Pa.) doubled down the left line to drive in the first run of the game.  An RBI single from Dante Millilo (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the fourth inning gave the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead. Trey Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) singled to center field in the eighth inning to drive in another run and put the game out of reach for the Bison.

In game two Gallaudet was first on the board in the second inning after they capitalized on a throwing error from the Nittany Lions.

Will Faccenda (Holland, Pa) put the Nittany Lions out in front with RBI singles in the third and fifth inning. Brandon Mau (Philadelphia, Pa.) extended the lead in the sixth inning with a single through the right to clinch the regular season championship.

Abington will host the North Eastern Athletic Conference playoffs from May 6 to May 8 and will face off against SUNY Poly in the first game on Friday afternoon at noon.
