KEUKA PARK, NY – Down 2-0 to Cazenovia College, the Penn State Abington softball team was three outs from being eliminated from the North Eastern Athletic Conference tournament. But the Nittany Lions rallied to knock out the Wildcats 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. Abington lost the first game 7-3 to Penn State Berks earlier in the day in the double elimination tournament.
Abington faced off against Penn State Berks in game one, the top seeded side opened the scoring with four runs in the third inning.
A double down the left line from
Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, Pa.) drove in a run for Abington in the fourth inning but Berks answered with two runs to take a 6-1 lead.
Junior
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) drove in two runs but couldn't overcome Penn State Berks.
In game two both teams were deadlocked in a battle but the Wildcats broke the stalemate in the fifth inning with two runs.
Only three outs away from being eliminated from the tournament, the Nittany Lions started the rally with an RBI single to right field from
Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.).  Next Lineman tied the game when she lined a single up the middle of the field to even the game at 2-2. Dougherty stepped up to the plate with two on and two out and drove the game winning runs across the plate her RBI single.
After her heroics at the plate, Dougherty took the mound and closed out the game for the win.
Abington will look to stay alive when they face off against Wilson College tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
