ABINGTON, Pa. – Four goals from
McKayla Baum (Philadelphia, Pa.) aided the Penn State Abington women's soccer team to an impressive 9-0 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth on Sunday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions earned their first conference win of the season and improve to 2-3 for the year.
A smothering defense for the Nittany Lions didn't allow the Eagles to get a single shot during the game. Offensively, Abington fired 38 shots and placed 23 on target.
Freshman
Nicole Baldassarre (Warminster, Pa.) kicked off the scoring with a shot to the low left post, and seconds later Baum notched her first goal of the game.
The Eagles would hold off the Nittany Lions until the 36
th minute when Baum scored her second goal of the game to give the Nittany Lions a 3-0 lead.
Usually the one in net,
Samantha Friend (Philadelphia, Pa.) entered onto the field and scored her first goal of her career before the half.
In the second half Baum earned her hat-trick in the 46
th minute when she intercepted a goal kick and finished off the ball in the low right post.
Sarah Eisele (Langhorne, Pa.) drove a free kick to the left post for the sixth goal of the game.
The Nittany Lions wouldn't see the back of the net again until the 71
st minute, when Baum finished her shot off a breakaway one-on-one with the keeper.
Paige Eberly (Nazareth, Pa.), and
Haley Keller (Philadelphia, Pa.) both netted goals to finish off the scoring for the Nittany Lions.
Abington will be back on the field when they host Wilson College on Saturday September 17, at 1:00 p.m.
