CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team bounced back with a 76-55 win over Wilson College on Tuesday evening. Abington moves to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Junior
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, Pa.) posted a season high 25 points and sophomore
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned a career high 20 boards and chipped in 18 points.
The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, aided by a pair of three pointers from Marrero to set the tone. Over the next few minutes, the Phoenix rose from the ashes to cut the lead to 17-13 with only two minutes remaining. In a fast paced final minute, the Nittany Lions added five more points and held a 22-17 advantage at the end of the period.
Defense dominated the second quarter, but the Nittany Lions churned out a double-digit lead off a huge quarter for Marrero. Abington led Wilson 43-28 going into the break.
The pace slowed down in the third quarter, as both teams battled back-and-forth, but the Nittany Lions couldn't pull further ahead. Â Abington cracked a twenty point lead in the fourth quarter highlighted by a shot from downtown by
Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.).
Abington will continue on the road when they travel to Gallaudet University on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m.
