ABINGTON, Pa. – Sophomore
Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) put up a career high, but the Penn State Abington women's basketball team lost to the NEAC South Division leading Lancaster Bible 86-74 on Saturday afternoon. Abington falls to 4-3 in the conference and 6-6 overall for the season.
The sophomore guard from Churchville led the Nittany Lions with 21 points, while
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed with 15 points and seven boards.
In the fast paced first quarter, the Chargers had no trouble scoring with 28 points. The Nittany Lions kept the contest close, but a parade of three-pointers from the Chargers helped them push their lead to double digits.
Lancaster Bible continued their strong offensive performance with another 23 points in the second quarter. Abington shot an impressive 58 percent from behind the arc, but the Chargers drained their shots 71 percent from the floor and 60 percent from downtown. Going into the break, the Nittany Lions found themselves down 16 points to the visitors.
The Nittany Lions started out the second half quickly, on a 6-2 run in the first two minutes. Lancaster Bible struggled to put points up in the third quarter, with Abington outscoring the Chargers 17-15. Although, the Nittany Lions couldn't keep up with the high powered offense of Lancaster Bible in the fourth quarter.
Abington will be back in action at Penn College on Wednesday night at 5:00 p.m.
