NEWBURG, NY – Down at the half, the Penn State Abington men's basketball team roared back in the second half to force overtime but Mount Saint Mary edged the Nittany Lions in overtime 74-72, on Monday night.
After the winter break, the Nittany Lions fall to 3-5 for the season.
Junior
Nick Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded another double-double this season with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the game. The Nittany Lions were led by freshman forward
John Ryan (Warminster, Pa.) with 15 points.
In the first half, the Nittany Lions were behind early, but Brown kept Abington within striking distance. His dunk brought the Nittany Lions within two points with 10 minutes left in the half. The Knights defense held Abington to one point over the next four minutes, as Mount Saint Mary took a seven point advantage. A late three-ball from Quin DeNofa (Philadelphia, Pa.) kept the game close going into the break.
The Knights held the lead until
Vincent Luciano (Philadelphia, Pa.) drained his shot from downtown to tie the game with five minutes remaining. The Nittany Lions were on top of the Knights by three points with a minute left in the game, but the host tied the game with a three pointer with 30 seconds remaining.
Austin Slawter (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied the game in overtime with his layup with 18 seconds left, but the Knights hit theirs with three seconds left on the clock.
Abington will be back in action when they host their rival Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
