ABINGTON, Pa. – Freshman newcomer
Lamar Moore (Philadelphia, Pa.) got his first major minutes of the semester and led the Penn State Abington men's basketball team to a 71-61 win over Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon.
The freshman forward dominated around the basket with 19 points and nine rebounds, and
John Ryan (Warminster, Pa.) came off the bench to add 12 points in the game.
Defense controlled the first five minutes of the half, as Abington held a 7-0 lead. With under ten minutes remaining, Berks stormed back to tie the game. Abington answered with an 18-0 run over the next seven minutes to take a 34-16 lead with under two minutes remaining. Berks shifted momentum right before the half concluded with 10 unanswered points down 34-26 at the break.
Berks came within three points at the beginning of the second half, but freshman
Austin Slawter (Philadelphia, Pa.) drained a three-ball to spur a 12-3 run. Abington held the double-digit lead and pushed it to 17 points after a shot from downtown by
Momolu Dorley (Trenton, NJ) with seven minutes remaining in the game. Berks clawed its way back to an eight point deficit, but clutch free-throw shooting for Abington kept the game out of reach.
The Nittany Lions look to continue their success when they go on the road to Wilson College on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m.
