ABINGTON, Pa. – Sophomore guard
Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) earned a career high 26 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Keuka College on Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions fell to the Wolves 72-63 and drop to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
Hayes' 26 points led the Nittany Lions, and sophomore
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed with 16 points.
In the first period, senior
Madison Kimball (Jenkintown, Pa.) dominated the boards with eight points, seven rebounds and a block. Her efforts helped the Nittany Lions keep pace, but clutch shooting from the Wolves gave them a four point lead at the break.
Keuka's defense controlled the beginning of the second quarter, held the Nittany Lions to three points, and a double-digit lead over Abington. The Nittany Lions clawed their way back with a 11-2 run and the opportunity to tie the game going into the half.
Hayes took back the lead with seconds off the clock in the third quarter, but the lead changed hands seven times, all within a single point for the first five minutes. Rodriguez opened up the lead with her shot from downtown to give Abington a seven point advantage. The Wolves rallied back to the one point margin with the Nittany Lions up at the break.
The Wolves put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter by converting their chances from the stripe.
Abington will be back on the court for Spirit and Staff Appreciation Night, on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. vs the College of Saint Elizabeth.
