Nittany Lions Fall to Bryn Athyn in OT, 96-87

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. A last second shot from Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.) forced overtime, but Bryn Athyn pulled ahead in OT with a 95-87 win over the Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions fall to 8-9, and 6-6 in the conference.

Rodriguez led the Nittany Lions with a double-double, as she racked up 27 points and 10 boards in the game. Sophomore Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) followed with 21 points of her own.

In the first quarter the Nittany Lions jumped out to a commanding 24-12 lead behind 10 points from Rodriguez. Bryn Athyn was ice cold from behind the floor and a dismal 3-14 from behind the arc.

The Nittany Lions continued their dominance in to the second period when they pushed their lead to 17 points when Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) drained her shot from downtown. The Lions made a run late in the quarter with two three-pointers, but Abington held on to a 13 point lead going into the break.

Out of the half, the Lions came out on fire with an 18-3 run to tie the game with three minutes remaining in the period.  In the final few minutes Abington netted eight points, but still fell behind the Lions.

In the fourth period, the Lions held the lead for nine minutes, but Keyes hit a shot from behind the arc, to give the Nittany Lions a slim lead. Bryn Athyn took back the lead off of free throws, but with only two ticks left on the clock Rodriguez hit a jumper to force overtime.

The Lions pulled away in overtime with their accuracy at the free throw line.

Abington will return home to host Gallaudet University on Wednesday night at 5:00 p.m.
