ABINGTON, Pa. –Sophomore guard
Shayna Rodriguez scored a season high 32 points, but it was not enough to overcome Penn State Berks. The Abington women's basketball team lost 80-77 on Saturday afternoon. Abington falls to 4-5 and 2-2 in the conference.
Rodriguez shot an impressive 14-of-22 (63%) and went 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Junior guard
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in 18 more points for the afternoon.
Two three-balls from Rodriguez gave Abington an early lead over Berks, but the visitor fired back with a 15-3 run deep in the first quarter. Rodriguez fired her third shot from downtown to cut the deficit before the quarter closed.

Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) tied the game late in the second quarter at 34-34, but Berks added six more points to take a 40-36 in the final two minutes leading into the break.
In the third quarter, the lead changed hands 13 times in the back-and-forth contest with Berks holding the slight edge going into the final period.
Abington kept the game close despite being in deep foul trouble throughout the quarter. Junior
Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) drained two shots from downtown to give Abington a four point advantage with under six minutes on the clock. Berks battled back and took a six point advantage in the final minutes. With 35 seconds on the clock, Marrero gave life to Abington with her three-ball down 79-77, but Berks closed out the game to take the first of the series.
Abington will be back on the road at Wilson College on Tuesday evening with tip-off slated for 6:00 p.m.
