Nittany Lions fall to Gallaudet, 3-1

WASHINGTON, DC – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team traveled to defending NEAC champion Gallaudet, but couldn't pull off the upset in a 3-1 loss to the Bison on Friday night. Abington falls to 9-12 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Junior Cori Watson (Harleysville, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions in kills with a season high of eight, while adding 13 assists as well. Defensively sophomore Isabel Hoch (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in 20 digs on the evening.

Abington shocked the hosts in the first set with a 25-19 win to take the 1-0 advantage behind a seven consecutive points for the Nittany Lions. In the second set the Bison held a slim margin throughout the game, and expanded on their lead pulling away to tie the match 1-1 with a 25-20 decision. A disastrous third set put the Nittany Lions in a hole with a 25-10 loss giving the Bison the 2-1 advantage. A five point run for Gallaudet in the fourth set helped them clinch the match.

Abington will stay in Washington DC for a NEAC crossover facing Morrisville State at 11:00 a.m. and then SUNY Poly at 1:00 p.m.
