ABINGTON, Pa. – Two stunning goals from freshman
Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin, Pa.) helped the Penn State Abington men's soccer team stay undefeated in the North Eastern Athletic Conference with a 3-1 victory over Gallaudet. The Nittany Lions improve to 7-6 overall and 5-0 in the conference after the win.
Gallaudet stunned the Nittany Lions in the first half with a goal in the 7
th minute, when Sean Huber poached a goal in front of the net inside the right post. Moments later
Thomas Vessels (Jenkintown, {Pa.) chipped his cross in to
Michael Albers (Southampton) where he finished the ball with a fantastic header to tie the match. The Nittany Lions had nine chances in front of the net but couldn't pull ahead before the break.
In the second half Palomeque corralled a ball at the top of the box, and fired his phenomenal shot to the top shelf to take the lead with his fourth goal of the season. Later in the half the freshman doubled his total with a curling shot that fooled the goal keeper and curled just inside the left post to give the Nittany Lions a 3-1 advantage. Abington was able to hold on to the victory to remain a top of the NEAC standings.
Abington will have a quick turn around when they face off against rival Penn State Berks on Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Field.
