ABINGTON, Pa. – In their final home game of the season the Penn State Abington men's soccer team notched a 3-1 win over Cazenovia College to send off their seniors on Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improve to 10-6 in overall and 8-0 in the conference.
Abington honored seniors
Marco Martins,
Viet Pham,
Chris Van Pelt,
Mykola Lyakhovolsky,
Thomas Vessels,
Andrew Costa and
Joel Chachapoya for their outstanding years with the Nittany Lions.
In the first half
Jose Palomeque kicked things off when the defender for Cazenovia failed to clear the ball and fired his shot to the low left post in the 30
th minute. Only seconds later Martins netted his third goal of the season beating the defender and finishing the ball low left post just past the outstretched arms of the keeper for a quick 2-0 lead over the Wildcats.
Freshman
Jordan Anderson was a dangerous presenece in the box in the second half, and in the 50
th minute the forward drew a foul in the box for a penalty kick. In his final home game Van Pelt took the penalty and placed the ball down the middle for a save by the keeper, but he followed up the failed shot and put in the rebound for the 3-0 advantage. Later in the period the Wildcats earned a penalty in the 64
th minute and converted from the spot, but it wasn't enough to spur a comeback.
Abington will be back in action when they travel to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
