Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Nick Economopoulos

Women's Soccer Slows the Express, 2-1

AURORA, NY – Down 1-0 to Wells College with only seconds left in the game, senior Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) scored a terrific goal to force overtime, and lead the Penn State Abington women's soccer team to a double overtime 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon. Abington improves to 4-6 for the year and 2-2 in the conference.

Wells pressed the Nittany Lions with 10 corner kicks but the Nittany Lions did well to stifle the attack, led by junior goal keeper Samantha Friend (Philadelphia, Pa.) with six saves.

The Express were first on the board in the 58th minute when Mackenzie Maloney scored her fourth goal of the year to give Wells the lead. With 23 seconds left on the clock the Nittany Lions earned a free kick and Michelle Latronica (Philadelphia, Pa.) crossed the ball into the box and found Sheridan for the game tying goal to force overtime.  Neither team could find the net in the first overtime period, but with 106 minutes played in the game senior Jill Osborn (Philadelphia, Pa.) found the back of the net with a brilliant chip shot to give the Nittany Lions the upset over Wells College.

The Nittany Lions will look to build momentum off the win when they travel to Widener on Wednesday October 11, at 4:00 p.m.
