ABINGTON, Pa. – Freshman guard
Iman Richmond (Chicago, IL) shined for the Nittany Lions, but the Penn State Abington women's basketball team was taken down in their home opener by Centenary University, 66-44 on Wednesday night.
Junior guard
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) led the Nittany Lions with 16 points seven rebounds and six steals, while Richmond chipped in 14 points shooting 5-of-8 from the field.
In the first period, clutch shooting from Rodriguez and
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, PA) gave the Nittany Lions the slim advantage with a 9-5 lead in the first five minutes of the game. The Cyclones stormed back with 16-1 run to end the period and take a 21-10 lead.
A three-ball from Marrero in the second period brought the Nittany Lions within striking distance but again by the end of the period the Cyclones were back to a double-digit lead.
The Nittany Lions chipped away at the lead in the second half, but Centenary took advantage of the Nittany Lions in foul trouble and drained their shots at the line.
Abington will hit the road for the Rutgers Newark Invitational where they will face off against St. Joseph's College – LI on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
