Brandywine Tops Abington 90-83

ABINGTON, Pa. – Freshman Devin Hill (Philadelphia, PA) and Jay Fitzgerald (Philadelphia, PA) hit career highs, but it wasn't enough to overcome Penn State Brandywine, 90-83 on Tuesday night. The Nittany Lions fall to 1-2 after the loss.

Hill led the scorers with 20 points, three assists, and three steals, while Fitzgerald followed right behind with 17 points for the Nittany Lions.

Abington was pressed into mistakes by Brandywine with the full court press.  The hosts recorded a staggering 27 turnovers and Brandywine took 15 steals for the evening.

Brandywine fell into foul trouble early in the first half. Junior forward Jordan Lomax (West Haven, CT) was a terror under the basket earning back-to-back fouls and knocking down his free throws.  Later in the half sophomore guard Quinn DeNofa (Philadelphia, PA) pushed the Nittany Lions lead to double digits with his three-pointer, but Brandywine responded.  The visitors tied the game with seven minutes remaining, but sophomore John Ryan (Warminster, PA) put them back on top stealing a poor pass and taking it back for the easy bucket. With under five minutes remaining Brandywine went on a 14-2 tear to end the half up 46-36.

Sophomore guard Terrance Reese (Philadelphia, PA) sparked the Nittany Lions with a three ball early in the second half, and on the next possession, Hill knocked down his shot from behind the arch. Brandywine kept grinding away at the Nittany Lions hitting 47 percent of their shots from thee to retain the lead.  Late shots from three-point land by Fitzgerald and Hill kept the Nittany Lions in it till the end, but the visitors hit their free throws to end Abington's hopes.

The Nittany Lions will have the holiday off and be back in action on Tuesday November 28, for Hype Night when they host the College of Saint Elizabeth. During halftime of the men's game, the Athletic Department will honor all of the regular season champions and the 2017 men's soccer NEAC champions, by raising their banners.
