ABINGTON, Pa. – Through a physical game, the Penn State Abington men's basketball jumped back on track with a 75-62 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon. With the much needed conference for the Nittany Lions, Abington improves to 8-8 in the conference and moves into third place in the NEAC South Standings.
Freshman
Austin Slawter (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions again in points with 15, and went 11-of-13 from free throws.
In the first half the Fighting Tigers shut down the Nittany Lions offense in the first five minutes of the game, only allowing four points. The visitors started by hitting six of their first nine shots to take a 13-4 advantage. Cobleskill held the lead until
Don Sloan (Boothwyn, Pa.) sunk a clutch three-ball to tie the game with ten minutes remaining. Â An 11-4 run by the Fighting Tigers moved them past the Nittany Lions, but freshman
Quinn DeNofa (Philadelphia, Pa.) went on an eight point tear in the final minutes to cut the Fighting Tigers lead to two points.
Both teams battled for the lead in the second half, but two consecutive three's from Sloan gave the Nittany Lions momentum. Abington pushed its lead even further by drawing fouls and converting free throws down the stretch.
Abington will host SUNY Poly tomorrow afternoon for senior day at 2:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions will honor seniors
Don Sloan and
Michael Davis for their contribution to the program.
