ABINGTON, Pa. – Down 18 points in the second half, the Penn State Abington men's basketball team rallied to within three points of the upset, but SUNY Poly held on for an 83-78 decision on Sunday afternoon. Abington falls to 9-13 overall and 8-8 in the NEAC.
Abington honored seniors
Michael Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Don Sloan (Boothwyn, Pa.) for their contribution with the program.
Freshman
Austin Slawter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
John Ryan (Warminster, Pa.) put up a combined 44 points for the Blue and White.
With ten minutes left in the second half the Nittany Lions were down 18 points, but
Quinn DeNofa (Philadelphia, Pa.) sparked some energy into the offense with his layup and three-ball in consecutive possessions.  The Nittany Lions earned another four points in the paint, but Abington would get into foul trouble and gave the Wildcats opportunities to hold onto the lead. Sloan cut the double-digit advantage that the Wildcats held with his shot from downtown, and later brought the game to a three point deficit with another three pointer. Abington came within a possession of tying the game, but couldn't stay out of foul trouble and the Wildcats converted their free throws.
The Nittany Lions return to the court when they travel to Penn State Berks on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
