Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Nick Economopoulos

Abington Falls on the Road to Berks, 84-79

READING, Pa. – Senior Don Sloan (Boothwyn, Pa.) put up a career high 23 points, but the Penn State Abington men's basketball team couldn't overcome a late surge from Penn State Berks on Tuesday night.  Abington fell to the hosts 84-79 to drop to 9-14 overall, and 8-10 in the conference. Right now Abington sits as the fourth seed in the NEAC South Standings, if the Nittany Lions remain the fourth seed, they will get into the tournament with a win over Cazenovia on Saturday afternoon.

Sloan put up 23 points for the evening and freshman Austin Slawter (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed right behind with 19 points.

In the first half Berks came out with energy, and took an early 12-2 lead in the first minutes of the game. That changed in a matter of five minutes when Sloan caught fire and scored 14 points to give the Nittany Lions a one point lead with ten minutes left to play. Abington held a slim margin for the rest of the half till Berks tied the game with only two minutes remaining. The men took advantage of Berks being in foul trouble, and converted their free throws to gain the edge before the half.

Abington continued to hold a tight lead over the hosts, but Sloan opened up an eight point advantage with another trademark three-ball with under ten minutes to play.  Abington entered into foul trouble and Penn State Berks took advantage and tied the game with five minutes remaining. The hosts held onto the lead with clutch free-throw shooting, and sent Abington home with the loss.

Abington will travel to Morrisville State on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
