Offense Explodes in Historic 101-58 Demolition of Berks

READING, Pa. – Juniors Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) hit career highs in a record breaking 101-58 rout of Penn State Berks on Tuesday night. The Nittany Lions set a new single game record for points scored after breaking last year's 96 point margin.

Abington improves to 11-12 overall and 9-9 in the conference and sits in the fourth seed in the NEAC South Standings.  The Nittany Lions will wait and see how the NEAC North Standings will shake out before they gain entry into the NEAC playoffs.

Marrero led the Nittany Lions with 29 points and a perfect 7-for-7 from behind the arc, Brittany Keyes knocked down 26 points with her solid shooting. Sophomore Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA.) captured a triple-double with 17 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds for the night.

Abington jumped out to an early lead over their rivals in the first three minutes with a 12-4 advantage thanks to a pair of threes from Marrero and Keyes. Berks slowly came within striking distance, but any momentum gained was killed with a three-pointer from either Marrero or Keyes.

In the second period, Abington jumped ahead with a 12-2 run from points in the paint and kept pouring on the pain for the hosts with more shots from behind the arc.  Going into the break the women held a 20 point lead over their rivals.

Keyes didn't take her foot off the gas two more shots from behind the arc in the opening minute of the third quarter. The hosts had no answers for Abington as they pulled ahead by 34 points by the end of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter Abington couldn't be stopped on its way to the most dominate performance of the year.

The Nittany Lions will continue the road trip when they head to Morrisville State with tip-off at 5:00 p.m.
