CAZENOVIA, NY – A second quarter surge propelled the Nittany Lions to an 85-63 win over Cazenovia College on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Nittany Lions have punched their ticket to the NEAC Playoffs as the seventh seed in the tournament and will face off against Lancaster Bible.
Â
Sophomore
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.) went off with 34 points, eight assists, and six steals in the game.
Â
Both teams battled back and fourth in the first period and neither could gain more than a two point advantage. Cazenovia earned their points in the paint, but Abington kept up with clutch shooting from behind the arc.
Â
Rodriguez and
Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, PA.) continued the momentum with a pair of three-balls in the opening minutes of the period. Â The Nittany Lions continued their hot shooting from three, and outscored the Wildcats 26-9 before the half.
Â
Abington opened the period on a 13-0 run to push their lead to 29 points, too much to overcome for the Wildcats.
Â
With the win Abington holds the tiebreaker over the NEAC North fourth seed Wells after they defeated the Fighting Tigers 65-60 earlier in the season. The Nittany Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible for revenge on Tuesday night, with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.
