LANCASTER, Pa. – Freshman
Austin Slawter (Philadelphia, Pa.) put up 21 points, but the Nittany Lions fell just shy to Lancaster Bible on Wednesday evening. Abington falls to 8-12 overall and 7-8 in the conference.
The first half was a battle between the Chargers and the Nittany Lions with the host having the slight edge. Abington constantly applied pressure and didn't let the game out reach only allowing the Chargers to go up by six points in the first half. Right before the end of the half,
Don Sloan (Philadelphia, Pa.) drew a foul from behind the arc, and drained his free-throws to bring the game to 25-24.
In the second half the Chargers pushed their lead to double-digits, but the Nittany Lions quickly answered, with a steal from Slawter that was put away for the easy bucket. Abington continued to hang around throughout the second half, and freshman
Vincent Luciano (Philadelphia, Pa.) drove through the lane and earned a critical basket with eight seconds remaining, to bring the game to within a point for the Nittany Lions. After two clutch free-throws from Lancaster Bible, Abington had a shot to tie the game with two seconds left, but the shot didn't fall for the Nittany Lions.
Abington will look to rebound when they host SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
