Nittany Lions Swept by New Jersey City

JENKINTOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team hosted New Jersey City University, but couldn't pull a win away in the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions fall to 1-14 for the season after a 7-1 loss in game one, and 16-2 defeat in game two.

Austin Mikula (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions going 4-of-5 from the plate with one run scored for the day.

New Jersey City opened the game with two runs in the first inning, and in the bottom half of the inning Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.) scored on a fielder's choice. The Nittany Lions trailed 2-1 after the first. Abington held the game close until the Gothic Knights scored two runs in the sixth and seventh inning to put away game one.

In game two the Nittany Lions gave up four runs in the first inning, but Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) chipped away at the lead with an RBI single in the second inning. The Gothic Knights would go on to score 11 unanswered runs to end the game.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action when they kick off their NEAC slate against Gallaudet at home on April 1st, at 1:00 p.m.
