Softball Splits with Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, NJ – The Penn State Abington softball team traveled out to Rutgers-Camden for a twin bill and game away with a series split on Saturday afternoon. Abington was blanked 4-0 in the first game and dominated game two with a 10-2 win in six innings.

Abington moves to 3-3 after today's contests.

In game one the Nittany Lions put runners into scoring positions but struggled to get them past the plate. Camden made the Nittany Lions pay in the third inning with three runs. In the sixth inning the Scarlet Raptors took advantage of a wild pitch to score their final run.

Sam Goetz (New Egypt, N.J.) kicked off game two with an RBI single with bases loaded in the second inning, for the first run of the game for the Nittany Lions. Abington added another run in the second inning, taking advantage of an error by the catcher.  Freshman Isabel Hoch (Philadelphia, Pa.) tacked on another run in the fifth inning with her single to left field.  Rutgers-Camden earned two back in the fifth inning to cut Abington's lead to two runs. A ground-rule double from Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) sparked a six run sixth inning to mercy rule the Scarlet Raptors.

Abington is back home tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against Misericordia starting at 1:00 p.m.
