ABINGTON, Pa. – On the verge of being swept by Misericordia, the Penn State Abington softball team rallied in game two, for a series split on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars took game one 9-6, but the Nittany Lions came back and stole game two 8-6. With the split Abington moves to 4-4 for the season.
Misericordia took an early lead in the first inning with three runs, but Abington earned a run back with her RBI double to center field in game one. Four runs in the next few innings gave the Cougars a 7-1 advantage, but Abington didn't give up. Â In the fifth inning
Isabel Hoch (Philadelphia, Pa.) drove in two more runs with her double to cut the lead. A two run single for the Cougars extended their lead. In the ninth inning Abington added three more runs but couldn't overcome Misericordia.
In game two, the Cougars again took a solid lead, with five runs in the first two innings, but a huge fifth inning shifted momentum. Abington took the lead with three runs highlighted by a triple from
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) and in the sixth inning a triple from Hoch scored another run. Junior
Caitlin Brasier (Levvitown, Pa.) finished off the scoring with her RBI double to give Abington the 8-4 lead.
Abington will travel on the road for a doubleheader against Arcadia on Thursday under the lights starting at 5:00 p.m.
