ABINGTON, Pa. – One of the hottest teams in the country, the Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team came into today's game 10
th in nation in scoring offense, and put on a show with an 18-6 thrashing of Rutgers-Camden on Sunday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions are on the verge of history going undefeated (4-0) in nonconference matchups and only one win away from creating a new program record.
Abington faced off against a gritty Rutgers-Camden squad, and neither team could find the back of the net until sophomore
Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) kicked off scoring with her first of six in the game. Moments later
Melissa Felicetti (Willow Grove, Pa.) added another goal, but Rutgers-Camden regrouped and answered with two consecutive goals to tie the game. Down a player,
Veronica Baez (Hatboro, Pa.) gave the Nittany Lions the lead, and minutes later finished her free position shot to go up 4-2. The Scarlet Raptors hung around but a pair of goals from
Sarah Eisele (Langhorne, Pa.) put the Nittany Lions up 9-4 going into the break.
Rutgers-Camden came out of the half with confidence and scored back-to-back goals only seconds apart from each other. The Nittany Lions calmed down with two more goals from Hayes, and ripped off nine unanswered goals highlighted by
Alynn Phelan's (Philadelphia, Pa.) monster four goal second half performance.
On April 1, Abington will kick off its conference slate with a huge matchup against Lancaster Bible at home starting at 1:00 p.m.
