ABINGTON, Pa. – After an undefeated nonconference schedule, the Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team opened its NEAC slate with a historic 19-9 win over Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions continue to set a new standard for the program this season with its first five win season, still unbeaten at 5-0.
Sophomore
Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) and freshman
Veronica Baez (Upper Moreland, Pa.) dominated in the attack with five goals for each of them. Â Freshman goalkeeper
Meg Danella (Norristown, Pa.) was stout between the pipes with five saves including two crucial free position shots that were stuffed.
The Chargers were first on the board, taking advantage of the Nittany Lions being down a player, but Abington fired back with four consecutive goals, all from different players. Lancaster Bible scored three of the next four goals, only down 5-4 with less than five minutes to go in the half. After a timeout the Nittany Lions went off for five goals to close out the half.
Hannah Thompson opened the Chargers with a goal, but Baez took over the game with four goals in the second half and helped the Nittany Lions push their lead to double-digits.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action when they host Bryn Athyn on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
