ORLANDO, FL - The Penn State Abington baseball team picked up its first win of the season in a series split against Pitt Greensburg on
Saturday afternoon. Â The Bobcats took the first game with an 8-6 win, but the Nittany Lions stole the second game with a walk off home run from
Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.), 5-4. Abington moves to 1-5 for the season.
Junior catcher
Austin Mikula (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned four hits including a triple with three RBI's and one run scored between both games. Â In game two Meyers almost hit for the cycle with a single, triple and home run.
Pitt Greensburg rolled out to an 8-0 lead in the first game, but the Nittany Lions didn't give up. The Nittany Lions capitalized on two errors in the top of the seventh inning, and a triple from Mikula added three runs, but the Nittany Lions rally fell just short in the 8-6 loss.
In game two Meyers got the Nittany Lions on the board first with his sacrifice fly, but the Bobcats answered in the top of the second, tied 1-1. Meyers sliced a single through the left side to score another run for the Nittany Lions. Again the Bobcats scored in the top half of the inning to tie the game and then took a 3-2 lead in the fifth. Â A triple from Meyers in the bottom half of the inning tied the game once more, and a double to left center field from
Jon Rivera (Egg Harbor City, NJ) gave the Nittany Lions the lead. Pitt Greensburg earned a tough run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the seventh Meyers walked up to the plate and slammed the first pitch fastball for a towering home run to left field for the walk off win.
