GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - The Penn State Abington baseball team traveled to Gwynedd Mercy to face off against the Griffins, but the home team prevailed in a 5-1 loss on Thursday afternoon. Abington falls to 5-18 for the season.
Freshman
Mike McDermott (Sewell, NJ) got his first start on the mound for the season and went five innings with only one earned run against him, striking out five batters.
The Griffins took a 4-0 lead holding the Nittany Lions without a hit until the fourth inning. The Nittany Lions loaded the bases in the sixth inning but couldn't get a run across the plate. Abington broke through with an RBI single from
Stevie Stevenson (Westhampton, NJ), but couldn't pull ahead.
Abington will be on the road for conference action against Penn College tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
