Nittany Lions Split with Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Home runs from Stevie Stevenson (Westhampton, NJ) and Trey Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) helped the Penn State Abington baseball team to a series split against Penn College on Friday afternoon. The Nittany Lions move to 6-19 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

Game one was a battle with six lead changes throughout the nine innings. In the third inning Abington took a 4-0 lead off of two singles from Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.) and Austin Mikula (Philadelphia, Pa.).  The hosts answered in the bottom half taking advantage of errors and tough pitching.  Both sides traded runs in the fourth inning but in the fifth Guaglionona rocked a two run home run to take the lead.  Penn College earned the advantage, but the Nittany Lions rallied to hold a 10-9 lead in the eighth in inning. Unfortunately Wildcats pulled out the win in the ninth inning.

The Wildcats were on the board first in game two with four runs in the first inning, but the Nittany Lions chipped away at the lead and tied the game after Tyler DiPatri (Pedricktown, NJ) drove a double to center field.  Penn College answered with another three runs, but the Nittany Lions rallied in the seventh inning and won the game thanks to three runs in the eighth.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action when they host the City College of New York on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
