Nittany Lions Power Past CCNY, 13-11

JENKINTOWN, Pa. – A huge day from junior Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.) helped the Nittany Lions overcome the City College of New York in a 13-11 win on Tuesday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improve to 7-19 for the season.

Meyers hit 4-of-5 almost getting the cycle with a single, double and triple on his way to knocking in five RBI's. Freshman Stevie Stevenson (Westhampton, NJ) recorded his second home run in as many games and chipped in five RBI's and two runs scored.

Meyers kicked off the scoring in the third inning when he drove in two runs with his double down the line, and later Trey Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) drove him in with a sac fly.

In the fourth with bases loaded, Meyers followed up his double with a triple deep to left field to add another three runs to the board.

The Beavers chipped away at the margin with runs in the fifth and seventh inning, but Abington pushed ahead even further when Stevenson slammed his pitch over the fence.

CCNY answered in the eighth inning with a home run and pushed the game to 10-7. Stevenson and sophomore Tyler DiPatri ( Pedricktown, NJ) added to their total with consecutive doubles to drive in another three runs.

In the final inning Abington survived a later push from the Beavers who added four runs, but fell short of the come from behind win.

Abington will be back in action when they host Penn State Brandywine on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
