ABINGTON, PA. – Freshman
Isabel Hoch (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit her second home run of the season, but the Penn State Abington softball team fell to Penn State Harrisburg in a doubleheader Monday afternoon. Abington fell 10-3 in game one and dropped game two 9-5 to fall to 13-11 overall.
Hoch led the Nittany Lions going 3-of-6 with two runs and two RBIs on the day including a triple in game one and a two run shot in game two.
In game one, Harrisburg took advantage of multiple mental errors from Abington on its way to a 7-0 advantage. Abington settled down and scored its first run in the fourth inning off a
Sam Goetz (New Egypt, NJ) RBI single up the middle. Sophomore
Samantha Friend (Philadelphia, Pa.) tacked on another run in the fifth inning and Goetz got her second RBI in the sixth. Unfortunately Abington couldn't kick start the rally.
Just like the first game, Harrisburg jumped out to a 9-0 lead putting the Nittany Lions on the ropes. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Hoch gave the Nittany Lions a spark with her two run bomb to center field. In the seventh inning Abington rallied with a RBI double from
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Goetz drove her in moments later with another single. Harrisburg held on for the sweep.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action when they host Lancaster Bible College for the second round of the conference match-up on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
