ABINGTON, Pa. – Down a run with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning freshman
Gina Cuozzo (Havertown, Pa.) slammed her pitch to center field for a walk off win to help the Penn State Abington softball team to a series sweep over Lancaster Bible on Wednesday afternoon. Abington took game one 3-2 and crusied to a 14-0 victory in game two.The Nittany Lions improve to 15-11 overall and 9-3 in the conference after the sweep.
Senior
Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, Pa.) had a solid day on the mound with only two earned runs and eight strikeouts in all seven innings of work. Offensively freshman
Isabel Hoch (Philadelphia, Pa.) went 6-of-8 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
In game one the Nittany Lions struggled to get runners across the plate, as the Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the first five innings of action.
The Nittany Lions broke through in the sixth inning when senior
Amanda McLean (Philadelphia, Pa.) slapped a bunt down the first base line to score a run and beat the throw.
In the final inning, the Nittany Lions loaded the bases and took advantage of a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2. With one out Cuozzo stepped up to the plate and drove in the game winning run with a walk off single.
The Nittany Lions jumped all over the Chargers early in the second game with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double from
Caitlin Brasier (Levittown, Pa.).
In the second inning junior
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) notched an RBI single to drive in two runs and followed that up in the third inning with an RBI double down the left line.
Junior
Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) added to the strong offensive performance with a solo home run in the fourth inning, and Hoch capped of the performance with a triple to drive in three runs.
Abington will be on the road this weekend when they travel to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
