JENKINTOWN, Pa. – An almost perfect pitching performance from senior
Diego Melendez (Camden, NJ.) helped the Penn State Abington baseball team to a series sweep over Keuka College on Sunday afternoon. Abington shut out the Wolves in game one 4-0 and won game two 8-5.
Abington currently sits in second place in the NEAC standings with a with a 6-2 record, in contention for the NEAC playoffs.
Melendez pitched a complete game only allowing four hits and struck out five batters in a terrific outing. In game two
Cesar Loya (Philadelphia, Pa.) went seven innings only giving up one earned run and earned his first win with the Nittany Lions.
In a speedy game one, the Nittany Lions took advantage of fielding errors by the Wolves to score three runs in the sixth inning and a dominate pitching performance from Melendez put Keuka away.
The Wolves took the lead off an error in the first inning, but the Nittany Lions responded with three runs highlighted by a
Trey Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) double to right field.
An RBI single in the fourth inning for the Wolves cut the Nittany Lions lead.
Abington went on to score five unanswered runs to complete the sweep.
The Nittany Lions will continue their home stand when they host Cabrini College on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
