Nittany Lions Swept by Wilson

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington softball team closed out its season hosting Wilson College, but the Nittany Lions fell short in a series sweep over on senior day. Abington fell 8-4 in game one, and Wilson rallied to a 9-7 victory in game two.

The Nittany Lions honored senior Emily Wrenn (Hatboro, Pa.) Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Amanda McLean (Philadelphia, Pa.) for their contribution to the program.

In game one Wilson College jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, but junior Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) chipped away at the lead with her RBI double in the bottom of the inning. The Nittany Lions would go on to add another three runs, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the Phoenix.

The Phoenix took a 2-0 lead in game two off an RBI double to left field, but the Nittany Lions would respond quickly. In her final home game McLean sliced a pitch to right center field and flew down the bases for her first career home run inside the park, giving the Nittany Lions a 6-3 lead. The Phoenix wouldn't go down quietly and responded by tying the game in the fifth inning. Later Wilson took the lead in the sixth inning, and again the Nittany Lions answered to tie the game. In the final inning the Phoenix took the advantage to complete the sweep.

Abington finished the regular season and will be in the NEAC tournament next weekend after all the teams have been seeded by the conference.
