Softball Stays Alive in Thriller Over Wilson

Box Score READING, Pa. – For the third year in a row the Penn State Abington softball team scored revenge on Wilson College, knocking the Pheonix out of the tournament with a trilling 5-3 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Pheonix took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the second inning.

The Nittany Lions struggled at the plate until the sixth inning when Caitlin Brasier (Levittown, Pa.) slammed a two run home run to center field to give Abington life.  With Isabel Hoch (Philadelphia, Pa.) at the plate and down a run, the NEAC Rookie of the year tied the game with another home run to left center field.

Neither team could break the deadlock in seven innings, but Abington took the lead with a triple to center field from Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) to give the Nittany Lions the advantage.  Next Hoch drove in lineman with a sharp ground ball to third base.

In the bottom of the inning, the Nittany Lions scored a clutch double play and held off the Phoenix to knock them out of the tournament.

Abington will move on tomorrow when they face off against Cazenovia College at 9:00 a.m. in the morning.
